Eligibility for Tech Nation Visa
To be eligible, you must be a leader or emerging leader in digital technology with a proven track record in areas such as product development, cybersecurity, AI, or software engineering. A job offer, minimum salary, or language test is not required.
You must demonstrate substantial achievements through innovative projects or leadership roles. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet all relevant suitability and validity immigration checks to qualify for this prestigious route.
Tech Nation processing times
The endorsement decision (Stage 1) usually takes up to 8 weeks. Once endorsed, the visa application (Stage 2) is typically processed in 3 weeks if applying from outside the UK.
For applications made within the UK, Stage 2 can take up to 8 weeks. However, because this route is unsponsored, you are not tied to a specific start date with a single employer during the wait.
Application fees and settlement
The total visa cost is £766: £561 for the endorsement and £205 for the visa. You must also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), currently £1,035 per year for adults.
A Tech Nation visa permits you to stay for up to 5 years, with the option to extend indefinitely. Most importantly, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after just 3 years if endorsed as an “Exceptional Talent.”
How to get endorsed?
The endorsement process is a crucial step in applying for a UK Tech Nation visa. Applicants must secure an endorsement from Tech Nation, the designated endorsing body for digital technology.
This requires demonstrating your skills, achievements, and leadership potential in the tech sector.
How to apply?
You must make an online application for a Tech Nation visa in a two part process:
- First, you must secure an endorsement from Tech Nation; AND
- Second, you must apply for the visa itself if your endorsement is successful
Length of stay
A Tech Nation visa permits the holder to live and work in the UK for a period of up to 5 years. It is possible to extend the visa or apply for settlement if eligibility criteria are met.
There is no limit on how long you can stay in the UK and you can extend each time for between 1 to 5 years – you can choose the grant of length in whole years.
You may also be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain after 3 or 5 years, depending on your field of work and under which category you were endorsed.
