The Home Office introduced new rules for UK visitor visa, which came into effect on 24 April 2015. These rules are set out in Appendix V of the UK immigration rules.
The changes simplify the UK visitor visa category. Previously, there were 15 routes, but now there are just four. This makes it easier for applicants to choose the correct route. The new routes are:
- Standard visitor visa
- Visitor visa for marriage or civil partnership
- Visitor visa for permitted paid engagements
- Transit visitor visa
Under the standard visitor visa, applicants can now undertake activities that were previously allowed only on business visas. These include attending meetings, participating in sales, and receiving training.
The student visitor route [short-term study] has also been rebranded as the short-term study route. Learn more about eligibility and requirements on the UK government website.
